Job Description: Bilingual Preschool Lead Teacher

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team, and functions as a team leader, or co-leader. The teacher plans and implements the curriculum, and with active participation of other members of the teaching team, works with parents and assesses the needs of individual children.

Accountability

The Lead Teacher reports to the Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 12 ECE units covering Child Development; Child, Family and Community; Preschool Curriculum.
    • Plus 2 years teaching experience
  2. A.A. in Child Development or ECE or related field
    • Plus 1 years of teaching experience
  3. B.A. in Child Development or ECE or related field
    • Plus 1 year of teaching experience

Responsibilities:

To establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment:

  • Establish and maintain an environment for children, which is clean, safe, stimulating and which is appropriate for each child’s developmental level.
  • Be responsible for the appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
  • Assume an equal share of housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Design appropriate room arrangement to support the goals of the classroom.
  • Promote healthy eating practices.
  • Complete paperwork required for local, state, and federal agencies.

To advance motor and intellectual competence:

  • Supporting, emerging literacy and language development through whole language experience.
  • Implement a curriculum that fosters the construction of mathematical knowledge through hands-on activities.
  • Design and implement activities that foster the development of physical knowledge.
  • Use equipment and material for indoor and outdoor play that promotes fine and gross motor devel opment.

To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance:

  • Treat each child, co-worker, and parent with dignity and respect.
  • Help each child to become aware of his/her role as an integral member of the group.
  • Provide an environment that provides development of self-esteem.

To ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participants needs:

  • Planning, supervising, and implementing the curriculum in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the program.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly written plans that reflect the individual needs of the families and children.
  • Observation and documentation of individual children’s progress.
  • Responsible for supervising the Associate and Assistant Teacher, and volunteers in their classroom.
  • Assist the Director in evaluating classroom staff.

To maintain a commitment to professionalism:

  • Attended all staff meetings, parent meetings, and other mandatory or required in-service.
  • Promote school code of ethics.
  • Maintain flexibility and consistency with all staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regard staff, families, children, and school at all times.
  • Relate to families in a positive and respectful manner.
