Educational Counselor / Lead Educator

The Educational counselor / lead educator will be responsible for the following job functions:

  1. Design and implement vibrant, engaging, and creative curricula and activities to meet academic standards; and
  2. Develop for teachers and instructional staff a variety of strategies for maintaining student motivation and interest; and
  3. Provide education workshops to teachers and instructional staff in conflict resolution, communication skills, healthy work habits and other topics as deemed necessary; and
  4. Develop educational and cultural programs in Spanish to improve students' reading, writing, pronunciation, and grammar skills; and
  5. Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards; and
  6. Enforce among teachers the use of preventive discipline and communicate expectations to students clearly; and
  7. Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis; and
  8. Collaborate with other instructional staff in long and short term planning that addresses students' individual goals; and
  9. Working with Director to use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices; and
  10. Implement long and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students; and
  11. Participate in staff meetings that support the planning and coordination of school's activities and school-planned professional development as well as engage in a school-wide practice of continuous self-improvement and a relentless drive for improvement of school practices; and
  12. Lead teachers and other instructional staff member for better assessments and pedagogy with students; and
  13. Prepare and maintain an up-to-date program manual with detailed program descriptions for use in orientation and training of teachers and instructional aid staff; and
  14. When required, evaluate students' progress, maintaining high expectations for each student; and
  15. Review teacher's monthly individual student achievement reports for parents; and
  16. Implement individual and family counseling, based on the needs of the participants and resource availability. Make referrals to outside agencies as appropriate and when needed; and
  17. Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment; and
  18. Design and establish effective classroom management strategies/routines in a way conducive to student learning while providing students with an emotionally safe environment; and
  19. Serve as advisor/counselor to teachers, students and their parents; and
  20. Foster a strong sense of identity and community amongst all stakeholder in the school; and
  21. Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Director.
